History of Indonesia's Pancoran Statue, also known as the Dirgantara Statue Monument, in Jakarta

Dirgantara Statue Monument

The Dirgantara Statue Monument - One of the statue monuments in Jakarta is the Dirgantara Statue Monument, also known as the Pancoran Statue. This monument is situated in South Jakarta's Pancoran neighborhood. In front of the Wisma Aldiron Dirgantara office building, which originally housed the headquarters of the Indonesian Air Force. Its crucial location stems from the fact that Halim Perdanakusuma Airport's new arrivals use it as their entry point into Jakarta.

Despite being known as the Pancoran Statue, this statue is actually known as the Dirgantara Statue. Why was this statue known as the Pancoran Statue? The statue is situated in the middle of the Pancoran crossroads, which is located in South Jakarta and borders the Tebet Civil Code. It was referred to as the Pancoran Statue as a result.

President Soekarno had the original concept for a statue and intended it to honor the aviation industry or Indonesian aerospace. This statue shows a spaceman, hence it symbolizes the Indonesian people's bold spirit to explore space.

History

Edhi Sunarso created this statue between 1964 and 1965 with assistance from the Yogyakarta Arca Family. I Gardono, the director of the Yogyakarta Decorative Arts Bronze Sculpture Foundry, oversaw the casting process. This statue is made of bronze and weighs 11 tons. The statue's foot extends 27 meters from the ground, while the statue's height is 11 meters. Ir. Sutami served as the implementing architect while PN Hutama Karya managed the construction process.

The September 30 PKI Movement events in 1965 caused a delay in the project.

This statue was created in response to Bung Karno's desire to demonstrate the strength of the Indonesian people in the aerospace industry. Because of the emphasis on sculpture design, Indonesians rely on their honesty, courage, and enthusiasm to succeed.

The government agency in charge of ensuring the security of the head of state was constantly agitated by Bung Karno's frequent attendance at the installation of the Dirgantara Statue. The installation instrument, a hand-pull crane, is straightforward. The statue is made up of multiple pieces, each weighing one ton, and weighs a total of 11 tons.

At the end of 1966, the Dirgantara statue's installation was finally finished. The Dirgantara statue was erected in this spot because it was strategically important and served as the entrance to South Jakarta from Halim Perdanakusumah Airport in addition to being adjacent to the former headquarters of the Indonesian Air Force.

Dirgantara or Pancoran sculpture's body position

The Dirgantara Pancoran statue's body is standing, with its arms lifted toward the Kemayoran International Airport in the north. Prior to its relocation to Soekarno Hatta International Airport in Cengkareng, Jakarta, Kemayoran Airport was an airport that served all domestic and international flight routes.

Cost of Placing Pancoran or Aerospace Statues

Of the entire 12 million that Edhi Sunarso is still responsible for paying, the expense of placing the new statue can be covered by about 5 million. Due to his illness and subsequent death, this statue is the last monument that Ir. Soekarno ever officially opened. The government never paid the installation charge, despite the fact that Ir. Soekarno once sold his personal car, which cost roughly $1 million. The statue's installation fee is not refundable. Now, on January 4, 2016, at 22:53, Edhi Sunarso died away. The late Edhi Sunarso's remains was interred at the Imogiri Artist Cemetery in Sleman, Yogyakarta.
