The history of the establishment of the Welcome Monument or called the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout - Jakarta
HI roundabout - In Jakarta, Indonesia, in the center of the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout, is a monument called the Selamat Datang Monument. This memorial is in the shape of a statue of two people raising their hands and holding flowers. The statue is welcome to those who approach from the direction of the National Monument because it faces north.
President Soekarno came up with the concept for this statue, while Henk Nuntung, who was then the Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta, created the initial design. This bronze statue is 5 meters tall from head to toe, 7 meters tall from feet to waving hands, and 10 meters tall at the statue's feet. This statue is being created by a group of sculptors from the Arca Family in Karangwuni, under the direction of Edhi Sunarso. When it was being created, Soekarno visited Edhi Sunarso's studio with the assistance of Howard P. Jones, the American ambassador, and his ministers. This statue took around a year to create. Soekarno then opened the Selamat Datang Monument in 1962.
The Asian Games IV athletes were welcomed with the construction of the Welcome Statue. This statue may be found in front of the Hotel Indonesia, directly over the fountain at the HI roundabout. The former Jakarta Governor Henk Nuntung collaborated with Edhi Sunarso to design this bronze statue. This statue was created to greet tourists, as its name suggests. The fact that the monument is facing the city in the north indicates that at the time the city region served as a hub for commerce, trade, and immigrants from the port.
There are five fountain forms surrounding this statue that serve as symbols of Pancasila, the philosophy of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia. With the creation of Good Morning, Good Afternoon, Good Night, Good Night, and Happy Sunday, this emblem also serves to greet Jakarta as the first capital city and the Metropolitan City.
